The Knesset, Israel’s Parliament elected in 1951, will hold its last session tomorrow. The elections for the next Parliament are scheduled to take place on July 26.
Election campaign activities throughout the country have been stepped up during the last few days. The Arab group affiliated with the General Zionist party called a mass meeting to be held at Nazareth, announcing that among the participants in the meeting would be Minister of the Interior Israel Rokach. The Mizrachi Party is also campaigning heavily in the all-Arab city of Nazareth, emphasizing its “common cause” with Arabs interested in strengthening of religious principles.
Nineteen lists were approved, and four others were rejected today in final tabulation of election lists for next month’s parliamentary elections. The Central Election Committee dropped the lists submitted by the Knesset Israel, headed by Rabbi Itzhak Ashkenazi; the Liberal list, headed by M. Nasbacher; the Israel list, which combined Arab and Jewish candidates; and the Progressive Arab list.
The four lists dropped from the ballot were taken off for allegedly having insufficient names on their petitions or for including signatures unqualified under the election laws. Several of the dropped parties are understood to be preparing appeals to the courts.
