Israel expects one million tourists in 1978, the year of Israel’s 30th anniversary, it was announced here by Moshe Kol, Israel Minister of Tourism. “The celebrations will commence at Rosh Hashanah 1977 and will continue through to Rosh Hashanah 1978. The majority of American Jews have not visited Israel and I hope that many of those who give so much of their efforts to the United Jewish Appeal, to the Israel Bonds drives and to other projects, will show their solidarity with the Jewish State by visiting Israel.” Kol said.
“I expect that 1977 and 1978 will be years of political movement in the Middle East.” Kol continued, “as Arab leaders are anxious to reconvene the Geneva conference. This is a process that will take time.” Kol called upon American Jewry to stand together with Israel to demonstrate their concern for the country’s future, and to stand with Israel against pressure to return to “the indefensible borders of June 4, 1967.” Continuing. Kol said: “As a dove. I am in favor of a compromise on territories, peace and coexistence with our Arab neighbors. But the Arab countries must compromise. They must recognize Israel, be ready to live in peace and harmony with her.”
Kol said that he expected American and Canadian Jews to show their solidarity with Israel in her quest for peace. “Visiting Israel during our thirtieth anniversary year has a great political meaning, not only an economic one. Thus we can demonstrate to the world that together we are for peace and that together we will never agree to plans which can endanger our future.”
