More than half, or 5,826, of the 9,830 kosher butchers throughout the country are in New York State, according to a survey made by the Retail Kosher Meat Code Authority in preparation for its first annual convention. Figures made public yesterday show that the annual business in the State amounts to $105,720,000, most of it centered in New York City.

The number of kosher butchers throughout the United States has increased from 7,000 to 9,830 in the last ten years and the annual volume of business from $140,000,000 to $196,000,000, the survey shows. The butchers serve a national Jewish population of 4,230,829.

The convention, which will be held at the Hotel Commodore on March 3 and 4, will be the occasion for a national trade holiday. Several thousand, including members of the meat and poultry industries and their families, are expected to attend. A number of NRA officials, Congressmen and city officials will address the delegates.

A banquet will be held on the evening of March 3. A feature of the convention will be a comprehensive exhibition of meat and poultry processes and equipment, the first of its kind ever held. The code authority will begin functioning February 5.
