Austrian Chancellor Bruno Kreisky said today the chances for a further move towards peace in the Middle East depended on Israeli concessions. Commenting on the meeting of President Ford with Israeli Premier Yitzhak Rabin in Washington today, Kreisky said the outcome of their talks will reveal whether the recent talks between Ford and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat at Salzburg were successful or not. “All depends on the concessions Israel is ready to make,” Kreisky said.
He suggested the possibility of a conference of Socialist parties of the Middle East to try to find a solution of the conflict. “It is, to a large extent, a matter of time that such a meeting has not yet been arranged,” he said. However, Egypt-last month denied any possibility of direct contacts between Israeli and Egyptian Socialists before the ending of the state of war between the two countries.
