The burning of crosses, long associated with Ku Klux Klan activities, turned up again in this section.
A huge flaming cross was observed on the side of a hill just back of a restaurant being operated by Jack Johnson, Negro, former world’s heavyweight boxing champion. The Ku Klux Klan is believed responsible for the cross.
The last burning cross reported in Northern New Jersey was in Hawthorne, about six months ago.
