The Supreme Court of the Russian Soviet Republic has turned down an appeal by Valeriy Kukui. it was learned here today, The court, which postponed the appeal hearing last week for two days because the chief prosecutor was ill, heard the appeal on Friday and confirmed the three-year sentence handed down on June 15, Kukui was arrested last March and charged with alleged “anti-Soviet activity.” A large group of friends and sympathizers gathered outside the courtroom Friday while the hearing was in progress. Only his wife. his mother and his uncle were permitted inside. It was reported Kukui’s lawyer implied during the hearing that Kukui committed a crime but asked for a leaser sentence.
