Magda Lupescu, titian-haired mistress of King Carol of Roumania, is to be accepted into the Greek Orthodox Church, adopted as his daughter by a Roumanian prince and will then become the bride of the Roumanian ruler, the London Express sensationally reports today.
The plans, the Express reports, have been prepared with the utmost secrecy for fear that the Iron Guard and other Roumanian anti-Semitic organizations will utilize the opportunity to incite the populace to pogrom measures. Mme Lupescu, a Jewess, is strongly disliked by the Roumanian population and several attempts have been made on her life. With anti-Semitism increasing in Roumania, the Express declares, it is feared that disclosure of this plan will have far-reaching results.
The church, according to the Express has been induced to accept Mme. Lupescu as a member. After her conversion, a member of the Roumanian nobility, whose identity is not disclosed by the Express, will adopt her. Thus Carol will be able to surmount the obstacles of Mme. Lupescu’s birth as a commoner and Jewess.
