At the large Jewish colony of Petech-Tikvah mail has not been delivered for five days for lack of carriers. And there are no candidates for the positions.
The reason for the dearth of mail carriers is that pay is much higher in other fields. Yesterday a mail-man resigned to accept a position at twenty dollars more per month.
Paradoxically, 216 telegraph linesmen have been discharged by the department in the last two months. The official reason is “lack of budget.” Residents of Jaffa discount this reason, however, because it is a well-known fact that the Palestine Post-Office is making money hand over fist owing to the growth of the business community and the population.
