More than 500 representatives of Labor Zionist organizations from 45 communities on the Eastern seaboard today voted complete mobilization of their constituencies for the 1959 United Jewish Appeal campaign.
Meeting here at a conference at the Astor Hotel they made personal pledges of several weeks’ income to a special drive which the Labor Zionist movement is conducting for extra gifts to the United Jewish Appeal Special Fund for resettlement of newcomers in Israel. No pledge was smaller than a week’s income.
In a resolution passed by the delegates they stressed the need to help Israel’s people absorb a heavy influx of recent immigrants. Sponsors of the conference were the three major Labor Zionist organizations: the Labor Zionist Organization of America, Farband and Pioneer Women. Speakers included Pinchas Cruso, national president of the LZOA, Louis Segal, member of the executive of the Jewish Agency, and others.
