THE OR HACHAIM HOSPITAL, MODEL JEWISH INSTITUTION IN THE SUBURB OF BALAT ON THE GOLDEN HORN, HAS BEEN FORCED TO CLOSE ITS MATERNITY WARD AND REDUCE THE NUMBER OF BEDS BY 25 BECAUSE OF LACK OF FUNDS ATTRIBUTED TO INSUFFICIENT INTEREST ON THE PART OF THE WEALTHIER MEMBERS OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY. IF THIS APATHY PERSISTS, IT WAS STATED, THERE IS DANGER THAT THE HOSPITAL MAY BE FORCED TO CLOSE. THE HOSPITAL WAS LONG SUBSIDIZED BY SIR ELI KADOORIE AND HAS A WARD BEARING LADY KADOORIE’S NAME.
