“I express my heartfelt desire that all my children shall marry in the Jewish faith and bring up their children to do so and support communal institutions.” With these words the late Viscountess Bearsted, wife of the late Lord Bearsted, concluded her will which was made public.
Lady Bearsted, left among other bequests, £5,000 to the Building Fund of the Jewish Maternity Home in Whitechapel.
Lord Bearsted, who, as Sir Marcus Samuel, was Lord Mayor of London, founded the Shell Transport Trading Company, and left an estate valued at £4,000,000.
