The price of land in Transjordania, the natural hinterland of Palestine, has gone up during the last few months, it is reported here from Amman.
Only last year a dunam of land could be purchased in Transjordania for £5. The price asked by Arab landowners now ranges between £40 and £50 per dunam. This rise in land values has caused a considerable increase in rentals in Transjordanian cities.
The rapid change in the real estate market is explained here by the fact that an extensive building plan is now being prepared by the Transjordanian government for Amman, the capital of the province. An added reason is the expectation of the forthcoming conclusin of the treaty between Emir Abdullah and Great Britain.
