The activities in the world Zionist movement of the late Jacob Landau, founder of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, were memorialized here last night at a ceremony at the Theodor Herzl Lodge of B’nai Birith presenting the first Jacob Landau Memorial Award to a journalist with the best record “for moral integrity, independence and exposition of Zionism.” The award carries 100 Israel pounds in cash.
The scroll symbolizing the award was presented by Dr. Wolfgang von Weisel, prominent Revisionist and intimate friend of the late Mr. Landau, to Dr. Yoshua Yeivin 64-year-old physician, author and journalist, who was the first man chosen to be thus honored. The scroll noted that the annual prize was devoted to the “memory of Jacob Landau, the prominent Herzlian Zionist, founder of the first Jewish Telegraphic Agency, and a great fighter for the independence of the press.”
