A PLAN TO EASE THE SUFFERING OF JEWS AND OTHER MINORITIES IN POLAND, AUSTRIA AND OTHER COUNTRIES WILL BE THE BASIS OF A NEW PEACE CAMPAIGN TO BE CONDUCTED BY GEORGE LANSBURY, NOTED PACIFIST AND LABOR LEADER, IN A NATION-WIDE CAMPAIGN.
ECONOMIC CONDITIONS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANTI-JEWISH FEELING, SAID MR. LANSBURY, WHO HAS JUST RETURNED FROM A TOUR OF POLAND AND AUSTRIA, IN AN INTERVIEW WITH THE NEWS-CHRONICLE TODAY. ONLY BY PUTTING THESE COUNTRIES ON THEIR FEET CAN THE JEWISH AND MINORITY PROBLEM BE SOLVED AND WAR AVERTED, HE SAID.
HE PROPOSED THE FLOATING OF AN INTERNATIONAL LOAN TO WHICH BRITAIN, THE UNITED STATES, FRANCE AND ALSO GERMANY AND ITALY SHOULD CONTRIBUTE, WHICH, HE SUGGESTED, WOULD BE ADMINISTERED BY AN INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION TO HELP PUT THE COUNTRIES IN QUESTION ON THEIR FEET.
THE NEWS-CHRONICLE, DECRYING PERSECUTION OF JEWS, SAID EDITORIALLY THAT PALLIATIVES WERE OF NO VALUE, AND MEASURES WERE NEEDED FOR A REVIVAL OF ECONOMIC LIFE IN THE COUNTRIES OF JEWISH PERSECUTION, TOGETHER WITH THE PULLING DOWN OF TRADE BARRIERS AND A REVIVAL OF EMIGRATION TO LANDS WHERE THE STRUGGLE FOR SURVIVAL IS LESS ACUTE.
