Karoly Korondo and Geza Hajdu, Jewish managers of the Kisszalas estate near the Yugoslav frontier, today were fined 15,000 and 12,000 pengoes respectively for violation of the anti-Jewish laws.
According to the authorities, they falsified records of 40 cases, counting a parish priest, a village schoolmaster, a notary and other Gentiles as their employees in order to increase the number of Jews who could be employed under the 12 per cent limit.
“Honorary Aryanism” has been granted 108 Hungarian Jews by the Government-sponsored “Hero Committee,” founded in 1920 by Regent Nicholas Horthy to honor men who gained distinction in his counter-revolution against the Bela Kun regime.
The 108 Jews were among 1,850 who appealed against an order for confiscation of their property on the ground that their services to the country merited exemption. The action was taken by the committee, which has never accepted Jewish members regardless of their merits, to prevent the land of the 108 Jews from being expropriated.
The perfect of the largest Hungarian county has issued an order requiring non-Jewish shop owners to put up notices to that effect outside the entrance.
