The Jewish National Fund announced today its largest single acquisition since the Palestine land restriction ordinance–2,800 dunams in the “free zone,” connecting Emek Hefer and Hedera.
The tract forms the head of a bridge between two areas, 30,000 and 27,000 dunams, and includes a small harbor used by the Crusaders. The land will be used for maritime and semi-urban development, including fisheries and coastal resorts.
The recently ended citrus season saw exports cut to 7,547,402 cases from last season’s total of 14,490,053 cases. The sharp drop is directly attributable to the war, which has both reduced the number of outlets and limited the tonnage available for shipment.
Meanwhile, oblivious to grim war preparations going on all around them, a group of Jews and Arabs began fishing operations on the beach of Caesarea. The fishermen, who come from the Haifa Bay area, are being aided by Yugoslavian experts brought here by the Jewish Agency for Palestine. The first results of their fishing with nets was described as satisfactory.
