Arab diplomatic sources here reported today that Syria has massed large numbers of troops along the cease-fire line with Israel and has given guerrilla groups a free hand to strike at Israel from Syrian territory.
The sources claimed that a majority of Syria’s nine brigades have been moved to the 40-mile cease-fire line in the Golan Heights. The Syrian Army numbers about 40,000 men but there is a so-called peoples’ army of about 300,000 they said. On June 26, Israel’s Defense Minister Moshe Dayan said Syria had increased its forces “three-fold” along the cease-fire line.
