British military authorities will begin next Friday to release large numbers of the 2,000 Jews now held in the Latrun and Raffa camps, it is reported here today.
Meanwhile, it is expected that 138 prisoners will be freed tomorrow or Tuesday. Those to be released will be 50 women, 63 veterans and 25 persons under 16 or over 45 years of age.
Military headquarters yesterday announced that British troops are no longer required to go armed at all times. Officers are not affected by the new order. The original order requiring the carrying of arms at all times, even when off duty, was issued last month after the kidnapping of six officers.
In connection with the forthcoming meeting of the Jewish Agency executive in Paris, several of the Zionist parties here are urging the convening of the Zionist Actions Committee in either London or Paris to discuss the crucial decisions now facing the Zionist movement.
Emil Ghori, a member of the Arab Higher Committee, has just returned from a visit to Alexandria, where he met with the ex-Mufti of Jerusalem. He said that the exiled Arab leader was “in high spirits and optimistic about the outcome of the Arab struggle against Zionism.”
