Whatever final status Palestine is to acquire after a victory by the United Nations, it should be immediately opened after the war as an outlet for Jewish mass-immigration, Professor Salo W. Baron, of Columbia University, said here yesterday in a public lecture in the institute of the Harris Memorial Foundation at the University of Chicago.
“Among the countless millions of Europeans knocking at the gates of more hospitable countries there will be at least two to three million Jews. From the world point of view, even more than from that of local Palestinian developments, the reopening of Palestine as an outlet for Jewish mass-immigration will be an imperative necessity,” he stated.
Dr. Baron urged the revocation of the British White Paper of 1939, limiting immigration. If reuniting Palestine and the Trans-Jordan area “at least for ‘immigration purposes” will be feasible, their “artificial separation” should be abolished, he said.
