A group of more than 50 immigrants arrived from Rumania yesterday, the largest group to come from that East European country in months. In recent months immigrants from Rumania have arrived either alone, in couples or occasionally in groups of no more than 10-15. Rumanian Chief Rabbi Moshe Rosen, who was in Israel earlier this week for the meeting of the governing board of the World Jewish Congress, said that Rumanian officials have placed no limitations on the number of exit visas to Israel.
Meanwhile, Absorption Ministry officials expect an increase in the number of immigrants from the Soviet Union, with as many as 1000 arrivals a month as compared to the 600-700 who have been arriving in recent months. Among the expected arrivals is Prof. Arkadi Tsinober, a Riga activist, who is a highly-respected scientist in the field of magnetic hydrodynamics. Tsinober, 41, conducted a seminar on Jewish culture at his Riga home and published two illegal issues of a periodical on Jewish thought.
