Count Folke Bernadotte, head of the Swedish Cross, this evening was named mediator in the Palestine dispute by the U.N. General Assembly’s Big Five committee. It is believed here that he may go directly from Stockholm to Palestine. During the war, Bernadette negotiated with the Nazis for the releases of many hundred of Jews detained in German concentration camps, and arranged for their transfer to Sweden.
