Last rites for Daniel Guggenheim, who died at the age of seventy-four, were held at Temple Emanu-El yesterday afternoon, with Rabbi Nathan Krass officiating. Though tributes to the memory of Mr. Guggenheim were received from all parts of the world, no eulogy was actually read, and the funeral services were conducted with simplicity and dignity.
Among the honorary pallbearers were figures prominent in every walk of life, both Jews and non-Jews and included such personages as Irving Lehman, Dwight W. Morrow, Charles A. Lindbergh, Adolph S. Ochs, Cyrus Adler, Samuel Untermyer, Chancellor Elmer Ellsworth Brown and Ben Altheimer.
The Board of Trustees of Congregation Emanu-El adopted a resolution which reads in part as follows : “Realizing the valuable, devoted and conscientious service which he rendered to the congregation for many years in the firm conviction that Judaism had a great function to perform in the world, the Board of Trustees hereby express their deep sense of loss at his passing.”
