Joseph Buerckel, Reich Commissioner for Austria, speaking before several thousand workers, said today: “In destroying Jewish stores they have destroyed values produced by German workers. It is for this reason that the National Socialist Party has taken measures to prevent insensate acts. I hereby declare, in agreement with Marshal Goering, that wherever the least attempt is made to damage the fortune of the German nation or pillage it, the authors of these attempts are liable to be placed against a wall.”
