The knesset voted 59-37 this evening to approve the Cabinet’s reply to the American questions on the future of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. There were 10 abstentions, including Deputy Premier Yigael Yadin and Justice Minister Shmuel Tamir, both of the Democratic Movement for Change (DMC). Five DMC MKs walked out before the vote as did Defense Minister Ezer Weizman. The DMC members who left reportedly wanted to vote for the government but were barred from doing so by the party’s decision to abstain.
