Secretary of State Cyrus Vance will return to Washington Friday after his visit to Cairo tomorrow, Israel Radio reported today. State Department spokesman George Sherman said that Vance had done his almost in trying to bridge the gap between the two parties, “and it was now time for him to return home and attend to other business.” Sherman added that Vance spoke today for 15 minutes on the phone with President Carter following his talks here. The report of Vance’s early return to Washington came amidst growing speculation here that there was no immediate breakthrough in the talks.
