Yosef Tekoah, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, called on the President of the Security Council, Piero Vinci of Italy, late this afternoon to discuss the situation created by the recent “no peace or negotiations” declaration of the leaders of Egypt, Syria and Libya. Tekoah, in a letter to Vinci, stated that the “declaration is a flagrant breach of the charter of the United Nations and a defiant negation of the obligations to attain a joint and lasting peace in the Middle East through agreements between Israel and the Arab states as called for by Security Council Resolution 242.” The letter added that Egypt “has assumed a grave responsibility by joining with Syria and Libya in announcing opposition to efforts toward a peaceful settlement.”
