The Interior Ministry of Portugal announced Thursday that it will not grant a residence permit to Archbishop Valerian Trifa who was deported from the U.S. last August for his Nazi past. The 70-year-old Rumanian Orthodox prelate now faces expulsion from Portugal. It was not immediately clear which country would accept him. Trifa, a leader of the Rumanian fascist Iron Guard, which massacred Jews during World War II, was admitted to Portugal in August on a temporary visa.
