Two British soldiers and a Jew were killed today in continuing disorders. The soldiers were killed when a land mine exploded under a military car between Nablus and Jenin. Two other soldiers in the car were seriously wounded. Arab snipers were believed to have slain Mordechai Schwartztein, who was found dead this afternoon near the sanhedrin quarter on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
Last night’s raid on the Athlit labor camp (reported briefly on page one of today’s issue) was carried out by a band of 70 Arabs who attempted to deliver 200 prisoners. Part of the band succeeded in breaking into the guard house. A British police inspector and an Arab warden were wounded in the fighting. Very lights brought aid from Haifa, troops and police routing the Arabs, reportedly inflicting several casualties.
Curfew was declared in Nablus, scene of a post office robbery yesterday, from 7.30 p.m. to four a.m.
