The first Latin American conference of representatives of Conservative synagogues closed here today after four days of discussion of mutual problems of religious education, religious text publication and others. Among the discussants were rabbis from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Panama, Chile, United States and Israel, the latter participating in the parley as guest delegates.

Prof. Abraham Heschel, noted American Conservative thinker, commented at the close of the conference that he was “deeply impressed by the signs of religious stirrings in South America. The need for intellectual and spiritual reorientation is very great indeed. It is incumbent,” Dr. Heschel continued, “upon Jewish scholars and leaders everywhere to bring about a revival of religious thinking as well as living.

“Many visits to institutions, schools, et cetera have duly impressed me with the fact that this is a great opportunity for such a spiritual revival. I only hope that we will not miss this great opportunity,” Prof. Heschel declared.
