The government yesterday decided to take over the employment exchanges from the municipality. The decision will unfavorably affect the Jewish unemployed, it is feared.
At present the number of Jews receiving relief has dropped as a result of a general tightening up of unemployment regulations. The names of unemployed who refused to accept work offered to them have been stricken off the registers. It is feared that further strictures will be introduced now, to the disadvantage of Jewish unemployed.
Some anxiety is felt too that no consideration will be given to the peculiar position of Jewish unemployed who are frequently unsuited for hard agricultural labor or who cannot leave the city for employment in distant provinces.
