A deputation of orthodox Jews, under the leadership of Deputy Dubin, appeared today before the President of the Latvian Republic, Mr. Jam Chakste, to complain against the chauvinism of the Latvian officials and press.
In reply the President stated that he fully agreed with the opinion of the deputation that Latvia lacks the objective point of view which is necessary in order to judge property the economic and political situation of the country. “Latvian politicians lack ripe statesmanship,” declared the President. He further stated that his power was limited by the Constitution, but that he would use his moral influence to prevent any injustice to the Jewish people of latvia.
