Impressive ceremonies accompanied the laying of the cornerstone for the new $2,500,000 Y.M.H.A. building at 2nd Street and Lexington Avenue, Sunday afternoon, before a large crowd. The principal address was made by Supreme Court Justice Joseph M. Proskauer, president of the Y.M.H.A. since 1926.
Other speakers were Felix Warburg and Judge Irving Lehman, both former presidents, and Simon Gottschall, first vice-president of the Association.
The exercises were held in the unfinished auditorium of the new building, which will have a seating capacity of 900. In his address, Judge Proskauer called attention to the fact that there is still $300,000 unpaid on the building, and be asked for additional funds so that the structure may be fully paid for before it is occupied next Spring.
