More than 200 leaders from twenty communities at the Ohio Jewish Community Relations Conference held here embarked on a program to coordinate and intensify efforts of Ohio communities to combat bigotry and to promote positive inter-group relations.
The conference approved a resolution authorizing the formation of a committee to study the need as well as ways for achieving such coordination. Sentiment at the conference from representatives of large, intermediate and small communities attested to the need for some kind of state-wide organization. It was this need which prompted the convening of the conference, according to the co-chairmen, Irving Kane of Cleveland and Dr. Jacob R. Marcus of Cincinnati.
The conference heard addresses on the current philosophies, techniques, and approaches in the field of community relations by Dr. S. Andhil Fineberg of the American Jewish Committee, Dr. Leo Shapiro of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, Dr. Isaac Toubin of the American Jewish Congress, and Emanuel Muravchik of the Jewish Labor Committee. Kane, who is also vice-chairman of the National Community Relations Advisory Council, presented a picture of the work of the N.C.R.A.C., which coordinates Jewish community relations work on the national level.
