Leaders of the greater Boston Jewish community have united to honor Dr. Stephen S. Wise on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday which was recently celebrated in New York and elsewhere.
Henry Penn, chairman of the Boston Stephen S. Wise Sixtieth Anniversary Committee, announced that Louis E. Kirstein, distinguished leader of Boston Jewry, has accepted the honory chairmanship of this committee. Penn has designated Samuel B. Finkel as program chairman for the function which has now been definitely set for Wednesday evening, May 9, at the Boston Opera House. Various plans for a unique celebration were discussed at a meeting of the sub-committee in charge of arrangements held last Monday at the Boston City Club and attended by Mrs. Julian Ansell, Mrs. Jennie Loitman Barron, Alexander Brin, Max Elkon, Samuel B. Finkel, James D. Glunts, Albert Hurwitz, Samuel Kalesky, Henry Penn, Norman Rabinowitz, Charies Rome, Rabbi J. S. Shubow, Gabriel Stern, Max Shoolman, and Henry Yozell.
It was indicated that the thousands of Jews and non-Jews in this community who are admirers of Dr. Wise would be given an opportunity to contribute to a fund which will be presented to the guest of honor at the function and which will be used by him as he sees fit.
