Foremost Afrikaaners, led by Minister of Justice Colin Steyn gathered at Bloemfonten to pay tribute to the contributions made by Jews to the up building of the Union of South Africa.
Speakers also lauded Jewish achievements in Palestine and expressed the hope that a Jewish national home would be established there. Mr. Steyn announced the establishment by prominent South African notables of a fund for the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and presented a check for £1,000 as first installment from the fund.
