A revision of the British White Paper policy in Palestine is demanded today by the influential Sydney Morning Herald. The newspaper says that the situation created by the war has made the White Paper policy “obsolete.”
Arab objections to the creation of a Jewish state are not valid in view of Arab indifference to the Allied cause, the Herald says. It adds that “the proposal for a Jewish state is feasible in the new order” which will follow an Allied victory.
The council of churches of the state of Victoria, in which Melbourne is located, today proclaimed next Sunday, June 20, as a day of mourning for the persecuted Jews of Europe. The proclamation stressed the “necessity of focussing the attention of all right-thinking people on the injustices inherent in the persecution of the Jewish people.”
