The Turnberry Hotel, one of Scotland’s most famous golfing centers when has discriminated against the Glasgow branch of the Maccabi sports organization for many years, will allow the Jewish group to play on the course next year after their policy of anti-Jewish bias was exposed here today.
The restricted policy of the famed hotel golf course was brought to light when Arthur Elliot, a member of the Maccabi group, successfully applied to the hotel for playing privileges on behalf of a non-existent DRPP Golf Club after a similar application from the Maccabi had been turned down by the hotel.
J. Bannatyne, manager of the hotel, admitted today that he had no idea that Elliot was a member of the Maccabi when he replied to his letter. “The only thing I can do now,” Mr. Bannatyne said, “is to offer Maccabi the booking straightaway. I must take responsibility for this terrible business.”
