Minister of Justice Colin P. Steyn will head a group of prominent Afrikaaners who will hold a meeting at Bloemfontein on Wednesday, Dec. 8. to pay tribute to the Jews of South Africa, it was announced here today. Similar meetings honoring the Dutch and Greek peoples have been held in past years.

The Afrikaan Die Volk, commenting on the meeting, writes that “the Jews have remained faithful to their traditions despite centuries of persecution and homelessness, and have contributed to the culture and science of all lands.” It points out that Jews supported the South Africans in the Boer War and hails next Wednesday’s celebration as an opportunity “for us to demonstrate we respect Jews as fellow-countrymen and value their activities in South Africa.”
