The special committee appointed by the League of Nations Assembly to investigate the Norwegian demand that the League establish an organization under its aegis to deal with the problems of refugees from Germany and other lands, today decided to create a sub-committee composed of representatives of fifteen states to study the matter further and report at a later meeting.
A majority of speakers at the session of the committee, presided over by Eamon de Valera, president of the Irish Free State, declared that they favor the proposal in principle, but would like to have the question studied by a sub-committee.
The Latvian, Italian and Russian representatives spoke against the proposal, but were not opposed to a study by a sub-committee. The Greek and Rumanian representatives made certain reservations,
Those favoring the proposal were Britain, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, China, and Norway.
