A precise interpretation of the Palestine Mandate was demanded today by Lord Hailey of Great Britain as the Permanent Mandates Commission of the League of Nations opened its 36th session.
Lord Hailey said the interpretation was needed to clarify the difference of opinion that existed between the British Government and the Mandates Commission on the question of restriction of Jewish immigration. (In its report to the League on the June session, the Commission had declared the Palestine Mandate “virtually suspended” because of the prolonged curb on immigration.)
President Pierre Orts expressed astonishment at Lord Hailey’s demand, pointing out that the last Mandates Commission report on Palestine had been unanimously adopted. M.
