League Group Hits Reich Laws on Jews

of Nations Societies recalls the resolution on the situation of the Jews in Germany adopted at the seventeenth annual Congress, and the appeal directed in connection with that Congress by Lord Cecil in the name of the Federation to the German League of Nations Society.

“The Congress regrets that this appeal has not brought the desired results in the shape of any improvement in the situation of the Jews in Germany; on the contrary, the legislative and administrative measures since taken by the German government against the Jewish citizens of Germany, solely and exclusively because of their membership in the Jewish race, have been considerably intensified.

CHALLENGE TO CIVILIZATION

“It is the opinion of the Congress that the retention of measures which exclude Jewish subjects of the Reich from equality of rights and deprives them of their integral human and citizen rights, constitute a challenge to the elementary principles upon which the League of Nations and human civilization have been established.

“The Congress considers it the duty of international society to guarantee to the minorities of race, language and religion of all countries the application of the general principles of justice and liberty. It protests against the entire extent and ramifications of the persecution to which the Jews of Germany are exposed, and it requests the League of Nations and all governments to intervene effectively in favor of the Jews in Germany, and to find ways and means of restoring the social and political rights of the Jews in Germany, and of putting an end to the situation which now obtains in Germany, which is an outrage to the conscience of all civilized humanity.” 1—30—Berlin and Goldmann.
