A reported plan of King Abdullah of Transjordan for “Greater Syria,” an all-Arab state including Transjordan, Syria and possibly part of Palestine, was denounced today in the Lebanese parliament.
Foreign Minister Henry Pharaon reminded members of the charter of the Arab League which compels all its seven member states to respect the full sovereignty of the others. Any attempt by Transjordan to carry out the “Greater Syria” scheme would be a breach of the charter, he declared.
The House unanimously voted a resolution thanking the government for its “firm stand against the greater Syria idea.”
