The president and treasurer of the Toledo chapter of the American-Lebanese-Syrian Associated Charities joined with the president and executive director of the Toledo Jewish Community Council in welcoming the Motorship “Tamar” of the Zim-Israel American lines.
The “Tamar” was the first Israeli ship to dock in Toledo. It came with an all-Israel crew of 34 to load 2, 000 tons of wheat for Israel. The welcoming delegation was led by Mayor John Yager who presented Captain Theodore Lewin with the key to the city.
Abe Haddad, treasurer of the charities group, said he and President Ned Thomas were happy to participate in the welcome and said they hoped their presence would emphasize the excellent relations which existed in Toledo between the Jewish and the Lebanese-Syrian communities.
