Lebanon’s ambassador to the United States praised Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak’s policies, but cautioned that Barak so far “lacks specifics.” Farid Abboud called for a comprehensive Middle East peace settlement that includes an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. “The security issue is one of the most important issues” to be negotiated by Israel and Lebanon, he added. “There is so much expected from the meetings. We should be careful,” he said, warning against unrealistic expectations.
