A group of Hebrew University students began today a sit-down strike outside the administrative offices of the University in an attempt to force a decrease in tuition fees.
The president of the University, Prof. Benjamin Mazar, said that nothing would be done to oust the students as long as their maneuver did not intefere with the activities of the administration.
Despite a unanimous decision of the student council to call the sit-down strike, students affiliated with Mapai and General Zionist groups are not participating in the protest action, asserting that they cannot the spare the time from their outside jobs. The bulk of the striking students are affiliated with Mapam or Communist movements.
The University, meanwhile, has announced that the medical school would open Sunday because the medical students had decided to end their strike. The Student Union has decided to discipline the medical students if they return to school. The student group will also appeal to Premier Moshe Sharett to intervene in the affair.
