Governor Lehman has signed the Mahoney bill barring discrimination in employment in defense industries because of race, color or creed. In a memorandum, the Governor recalled that he had asked for such a bill in his annual message to the Legislature.

The law states: “It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation engaged to any extent whatsoever in the production, manufacture or distribution of military or naval material, equipment or supplies for the State of New York or for the Federal Government to refuse to employ any person in any capacity on account of race, creed or color of such person.”
