Characterizing the economic fight on Germany as a “five-and-ten cents boycott,” Dr. Emil Lengyel, publicist and author, speaking yesterday at Temple Rodeph Sholom, 7 West Eighty-third street, declared that Catholics are displaying far greater zeal in pushing the boycott than Jews.
“People indignantly reject German goods in the ‘lower brackets,'” he stated, “but statistics for higher priced merchandise show a different picture. In many parts of the country—according to the information I have received—Catholics are taking the boycott more seriously than the Jews.
“If America’s trade balance with Germany is more favorable for the Reich, it is because the depreciated dollar cannot buy higher priced goods sold for gold currency. “
Dr. Lengyel predicted that the Saar will vote to return to Germany in the plebiscite January 16.
“Terrorism and intimidation,” he said, “will do their work and the Saar will vote German.”
