Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:

A false impression has been left by publicity regarding action by the Presbyterian Synod in Atlantic City last week. It was not an anti-Semitic action, nor anything near that. The motion, according to reports I received, should have gone through the proper committee before it reached the floor, and it not only failed in this, but it was presented in the last few minutes of the session and the Synod felt that there was insufficient time to consider the case. Moreover, the motion called for intervention by President Roosevelt, and the idea of intervention raised the horror of more war, and the final action, hurriedly taken, was to table the motion. The Synod of New Jersey, however, did not “condemn protesting against the treatment of Jews in Germany” as stories in the press would lead readers to believe.

Very truly yours,

Everett R. Clinchy,

National Conference of Jews and Christians
