Man is losing his freedom, Ludwig Lewisohn believes. Speaking between numbers in a musical program given by Mrs. Lewisohn before an audience which filled Memorial Auditorium here, Lewisohn asserted that mankind is being enslaved.
“Civilization is a creative thing that man has built,” said the writer. “The Western world is in the grip of dark mass religion, insidious and dangerous. They are trying to get a foothold here.”
Mrs. Lewisohn scored a success with a variety of songs, including numbers in French and German. The occasion was a benefit for the Vermont Children’s Aid Society.
