A pro-Arab faction of the Liberal Party was forced to call off a two day seminar in support of Palestinian Arabs when the National Liberal Club cancelled their room reservations today. Coss Bilson, the club secretary, said the group which calls itself “Liberals for Palestine” failed to inform the club of the nature of the seminar and violated club rules by publicizing an event to take place on its premises without permission. The seminar was organized in connection with a Palestine Solidarity rally in Trafalgar Square on May 15. A spokesman for the pro-Arab group said it was too late to reschedule the seminar in more hospitable quarters. Bilson said the Liberal Club acted because of “a lack of frankness” on the part of the “Liberals for Palestine.” But he conceded that the club came under heavy pressure when the seminar was announced in the press. “We have quite a few Jewish members and the subject matter of the meeting would plainly have been objectionable to them,” Bilson said.
